So my roommate made fun of me for weeks about being cheesy and claiming love at first site. I was kidding, but I am fairly dramatic, so...easy to see how she found humor in the situation.
I did call my friend who had initially tried to set us up (Kim) and ate my words about the gladiator beard.
In the meantime, I met the girl who would become my matron of honor, one of my best friends in the whole wide world. She had just gone through her own heartbreak. We brought each other back to life that summer, staying up ridiculously late talking, eating entire 14-inch Johnny's pizzas, fake-playing chess at the Frothy Monkey while waiting on boys to come talk to us...And I sort of forgot about the cute fella I met on campus. He was doing his engineer co-op for the summer, so he was outta sight outta mind.
Except for this one night. My brother Micah was visiting me, and filled in to play on a church softball team for a friend of mine. My friend Binni and I were watching Micah play, and Binni's phone rang. It was Alan! For a reason we still don't know, Binni handed me his phone. We had a short but meaningful conversation. I made him guess who he was talking to, and he guessed right, without really knowing that Binni and I were friends, and with only meeting me the one time before. That three minute conversation placed him in the back of my mind for the rest of the summer.
A few well-placed bugs were put into my ear by some of Alan's and my mutual friends late in the summer. One guy told me that Alan had asked about me - what my story was, if I was single, etc. It sparked my infatuation even further. My friend Aaron came to visit me for the Independence Bowl. We walked into the stadium and came up on a group of people I knew. I said hi to a few of them and looked up a few rows, and there he was. Smiling that smile. My heart stopped. He made his way down and asked how my summer had been. I don't remember what I said. Probably something retarded.
When school started back in the fall, I ran into Alan again at the BSU house where Binni lived. We talked for a bit, and he disappeared in the back of the house. Jay (another BSU roommate) told me he was going to do me a favor, and he grabbed Alan's phone off the coffee table and put my number in it. I pretended to be mortified, but was secretly excited.
He made me sweat it out for a month. Heather and I were walking across campus by the seal (you Techsters know where) one day when my phone rang. I didn't know the number but answered anyway. It was him. He told me that he could see me (he was inside the student center eating by a window) and told me what I was wearing - and I was creeped out for a second. Then he made me laugh, and Heather knew I was a goner.
The rest next Monday!

I am just cracking up at how many people and locations overlap in our stories!
I got chills when you wrote about walking into the stadium and there he was - how sweet!!!
And yes, I found it extremely ironic (and a bit hilarious) that Fiance J had a man-crush on B, and then I ended up marrying B!!!
Sadly, I went with Sommer on the "seal" thing. HAHA!
LOVE it!!!
